This book is designed to promote and enhance critical reading and thinking skills for academic reading courses at tertiary level.

It contains seven chapters which include general reading strategies, contextual and word structural analysis; identifying topics, stated main ideas and implied main ideas; analysing supporting details; making inferences and drawing conclusions; identifying deductive and inductive reasoning and assumptions in arguments; identifying purpose, tone, audience and bias as well as analysing arguments.

The content outlined above focus on strengthening and reinforcing critical reading skills to better understand and interpret academic texts. As such, it is a useful resource and the systematic presentation is practical for students who aspire to be self-regulated, independent learners.
